University of Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh announced that his team will hold a screening of “American Sniper” after the university pulled it after some students complained the film is anti-Muslim and that Chris Kyle was a murderer.
More and more it’s becoming clear that universities and colleges in the United States don’t understand the concept of Free Speech.
College campuses like to claim they ‘embrace diversity’ except of course when it comes to diversity that may not agree with a minority.
A scheduled movie screening of “American Sniper” at the University of Michigan was abruptly cancelled Tuesday after nearly 300 students and others complained the film perpetuates “negative and misleading stereotypes” against Muslims.
“The movie American Sniper not only tolerates but promotes anti-Muslim … rhetoric and sympathizes with a mass killer,” according to an online letter circulated among the campus community via Google Docs that garnered the signatures. [..]
The film was set to be shown Friday on campus, but the letter – which asked for its cancellation – was successful.
People who are offended by things they dislike need to shut up and get over themselves. In the United States of America we have something called the 1st Amendment which means no one has any right to be offended.
If you don’t like a movie that’s being shown, don’t go to see it. If you don’t like a speech that’s being given, leave the room.
Good job, Coach Harbaugh for standing up for the first amendment, and for an American hero, in such a public way.
