New York City’s controversial mayor – Bill de Blasio – is at it again. This time it’s not insulting cops, it’s catering to the new “political correctness” fad among the left – promoting Islam in America. Newsmax reports:
New York will become the largest U.S. school district to close in observance of the Muslim holy days of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, Mayor Bill de Blasio said. The mayor announced the policy Wednesday at a Brooklyn public school where 36 percent of its students were absent the last time Eid al-Adha occurred on an instructional day. The program will begin in the school year that starts in September.
His reasoning for doing this? Newsmax explains:
“This is about respect for one of the great faiths of this Earth,” said de Blasio, a 53-year-old Democrat. In past years, “either the child went and pursued his education and missed his religious observance or the other way around. That is the kind of choice that was wrong to have to make for these families.”
His chancellor of schools – Carmen Farina – explained the rationale for the move according to Newsmax:
“The more we celebrate diversity, the better we are as a city,” Farina said.
But, there may be a more practical reason for de Blasio’s decision as Newsmax reveals:
The move fulfilled a promise de Blasio made to the Muslim community during the 2013 campaign that made him the first Democrat to run City Hall in 20 years.
Of course de Blasio is thinking of his re-election, so this decision shouldn’t surprise anyone. Besides, de Blasio is in lock step with President Obama’s pro-Islam push in America; so why shouldn’t he do his part?
The idea of tolerance and diversity isn’t a bad thing in and of itself. However, de Blasio has demonstrated animosity to various Christian churches in New York, so this move seems a bit hypocritical and pandering.
