A police officer from Texas who used a stun gun on a 76-year-old man found out what the consequences of his actions would be as the Victoria Police Department handed down their decision.
Let’s just say he’s having a bad day.
The Associated Press reports the Victoria Police Department said Monday that Nathanial Robinson, 23, was fired after an internal affairs investigation into the Dec. 11 incident found that he had violated department policy.
Police Chief Jeff Craig said Robinson violated policies in the areas of conduct and performance, use of force and arrest without a warrant when he pulled over Pete Vasquez in error for the expired sticker.
Representatives from the Victoria Police Department said the criminal portion of the investigation into the incident has been completed by the Texas Rangers and sent to the district attorney’s office for review.
District Attorney Stephen Tyler said in December that Robinson could face charges including official oppression, injury to elderly, aggravated assault and assault. It remains unclear if any such charges will be filed.
Given that the whole situation was caught on video, it’s pretty hard to argue with the decision.
It seems pretty clear this guy overstepped his boundaries and assaulted this man who was unarmed and posed no legitimate threat to his safety. I mean, really?
Using a stun gun on an old guy? Bad form, sir!
There are bad cops in the world who do bad things. This guy is an example of that. With that being said, I’m not calling for all cops to be strung up in the streets either.
Here’s a perfect example of a police officer acting unprofessionally and being properly punished for it.
I’m not going to let this incident cause me to lump all law enforcement together. Good ones deserve praise, bad ones deserve to lose their job and face charges. End of story.
Let’s hope this way of thinking starts sinking in, and there’s less hate being spewed toward the men and women who protect our communities.
